A flag is a piece of cloth or bunting varying in size, color, and design, used as a symbol,
standard, signal, or emblem, especially of a state or a sovereign nation.
The original flag of the United States of America had thirteen white five-pointed stars, arranged
in a circle, upon a dark blue field, in the upper left corner, symbolizing the original thirteen
colonies comprising the newly-formed nation. As more territories gained statehood, more stars
were added, until the present day, wherein the flag of the USA now contains fifty stars
