In theological terms, an angel is an immortal, spiritual being attendant upon God.
In medieval angelology, an angel belongs to one of nine orders of spiritual beings,
listed here in order of the highest to the lowest of rank: seraphim, cherubim,
thrones, dominations or dominions, virtues, powers, principalities, archangels,
and angels. Guardian spirits or guiding influences are called angels.
A kind and loveable person is an angel, and in Christian Science, God's thoughts
passing to man are angels. In the military sense, an angel is an enemy aircraft.
Informally, a financial backer of an enterprise, especially a dramatic production,
is called an angel.
