Devices for generating an electric current by means of a chemical reaction are called batteries.
Batteries come in all sorts of shapes and sizes, and deliver various voltages and amperages.
Some batteries are rechargeable, while others are intended for a single duty cycle,
and are discarded once they are dead. Some people are concerned by chemical pollution brought
on by dead batteries discarded in landfills. Sometimes a battery is of a variety that can
be charged up again and reused to power an electric device. There are wet batteries as well as
dry cell batteries which have some moisture actually. Batteries should not be discarded in a fire.
