Windows are openings constructed in a wall or roof and functioning to admit light or air to an
enclosure, usually framed and spanned with glass mounted to permit opening and closing
A window is also considered to be a framework enclosing a pane of glass, otherwise known
as a sash. Any opening that resembles a window in function or
appearance, as the transparent space on an envelope that reveals the address printed on
the enclosure is called a window. Some people believe that the
eyes are the window to the soul. Double-pane windows are considered
to be superior to single-pane windows, in that they provide additional insulation from the
outside cold. We must always be aware that windows are intended to be
weather-proof, keeping out cold air, drafts, wind, rain, and snow.
We must not ignore the the obvious: the term "window", or perhaps more accurately, "windows"
is the trade name for a computer operating system, in which the weirdmaster has had direct
experience as far back as the year of our Lord, 1990.
Then, we must consider window boxes, which are usually long and narrow boxes for growing
plants, placed on a windowsill ledge. However, the term window-box can also be
one of the vertical grooves on the inner side of a window frame for the weights that
counterbalance the sash. Window-dressing is the decorative exhibition of retail merchandise
in store windows. Goods and trimmings is such displays are called window-
dressings. Reports, statements, or the like, that give emphasis to favorable
conditions, to spare the feelings of people that we care about are referred
to as window-dressings as well.
