Chickens are domesticated farm animals.
Baby chickens are called chicks, adult female chickens are called hens, and
adult male chickens are called roosters. Chickens are raised for the eggs that
they lay as well as for food. Capons are castrated roosters. Chickens are
allowed to roam the barnyard, but at night they usually roost in henhouses.
There are many varieties and breeds of chickens.
