Starlings are any of various species of Old World birds of the family Sturnidae, characteristically
having dark, often iridescent plumage; especially Sturnus vulgaris, widely naturalized in North
America.    Indeed, all of the starlings in the US and Canada are descended from an original
population of sixty birds introduced to Central Park in New York City, in 1860.    A starling is
also a protective structure of pilings surrounding a pier of a bridge.     Do you think that
populations of US starlings might soon exhibit signs of being infected with the Avian flu?
We certainly hope not!
